This policy explains how I collect, use and protect personal information when you visit my website, get in touch about my services, subscribe to my emails or work with me as a client. I take privacy seriously, not least because helping businesses track data lawfully is a large part of what I do.

WHO I AM

This website is owned and operated by Chloe Christine, an independent analytics and tracking consultant based in the United Kingdom, trading as a sole trader. For the purposes of UK data protection law, I am the data controller responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

THE LAW I WORK TO

I handle personal information in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Where I work with clients or subscribers in the European Union, the equivalent EU GDPR principles apply as well.

THE INFORMATION I COLLECT

I only collect information I actually need. Depending on how you interact with me, this may include:

When you use the enquiry or contact form

Your name, email address, business or website details, and whatever you choose to tell me about your project or query. This is information you provide directly and voluntarily.

When you subscribe to my emails

Your name and email address, along with a record of your subscription and whether you have opened or clicked previous emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

When you work with me as a client

Contact and billing details, correspondence, and information needed to deliver the work. In the course of analytics and tracking projects I may also access personal data held within your own systems, such as your analytics platforms, tag manager, ad accounts or data warehouse. When I do this I am acting as a data processor on your behalf, not as the controller. See the section on client data below.

When you simply browse the website

Standard technical information collected automatically, such as your approximate location, device and browser type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at the site. This is gathered through cookies and similar technologies, subject to your consent, and through routine server logs kept by my website host.

COOKIES AND ANALYTICS

My website uses cookies and similar technologies to function correctly, to understand how visitors use the site, and to measure the performance of my own marketing. Given the nature of my work, I aim to run these tools to a high standard.

Cookies fall into a few broad groups:

- Strictly necessary cookies that make the site work and cannot be switched off.

- Analytics cookies, such as Google Analytics 4, that help me see which pages are useful and where visitors run into problems.

- Marketing and measurement cookies or tags, such as advertising pixels, that help me understand which of my marketing efforts bring people to the site.

Non essential cookies are only set once you give consent through the cookie banner, in line with Consent Mode v2 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). You can change or withdraw your choices at any time through the cookie settings on the site. Blocking or removing cookies may affect how parts of the website behave.

WHY I USE YOUR INFORMATION, AND MY LAWFUL BASIS

UK data protection law requires me to have a valid reason, known as a lawful basis, for using your personal information. The list below sets out what I do and why.

- Responding to enquiries and discussing a possible project: legitimate interests, and steps taken at your request before entering a contract.

- Delivering services and managing our contract: performance of a contract.

- Sending marketing emails to subscribers: consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

- Running website analytics and marketing cookies: consent, given through the cookie banner.

- Invoicing, accounting and meeting tax obligations: legal obligation.

- Keeping the website secure and preventing misuse: legitimate interests.

WHO I SHARE INFORMATION WITH

I never sell your personal information. I do rely on a small number of trusted service providers to run my business, and they process information on my behalf under appropriate agreements. These typically include:

- My website platform, Squarespace, which hosts the site and processes form submissions and server logs.

- Analytics and tag management providers, such as Google, used to measure website performance.

- My email and newsletter provider, used to manage subscriptions and send emails.

- My consent management provider, used to record and honour your cookie choices.

- Accounting, invoicing and payment providers, used to manage billing.

I may also disclose information where I am required to by law, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS

Some of the providers above are based outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where personal information is transferred abroad, I take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected to UK standards, for example through adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses with appropriate safeguards.

HOW LONG I KEEP IT

I keep personal information only for as long as I need it. Enquiries that do not lead to work are kept for a reasonable period and then deleted. Client records are kept for the duration of our engagement and for as long as I am required to retain them afterwards, including to meet legal and tax obligations, which is generally up to six years. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask me to remove it.

YOUR RIGHTS

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

- Ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you.

- Ask me to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.

- Ask me to delete your information in certain circumstances.

- Ask me to restrict or object to how I use your information.

- Ask for your information in a portable format where that applies.

- Withdraw consent at any time, where I rely on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, email me at hello@chloechristine.co.uk. I will respond within one month. There is normally no charge, and I may need to verify your identity first.

MARKETING EMAILS

If you have subscribed to my emails, you can opt out whenever you like by clicking the unsubscribe link in any message or by emailing me directly. I will not add you to my mailing list from an enquiry alone without your agreement.

CLIENT DATA AND MY ROLE AS A PROCESSOR

When I carry out analytics, tracking or reporting work, I often access personal data that belongs to my client and sits within their own platforms. In those situations my client is the data controller and I act as their processor, handling the data only on their documented instructions, keeping it confidential, applying suitable security, and returning or deleting it at the end of the engagement. The specific terms are set out in our contract or a separate data processing agreement where one is needed.

HOW I KEEP INFORMATION SECURE

I use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including access controls, reputable service providers and sensible data minimisation. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but I take security seriously and review my practices regularly.

OTHER WEBSITES

My website may link to other sites, such as LinkedIn or client case studies. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, so I encourage you to read their own privacy policies.

CHILDREN

My services and website are aimed at businesses and are not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16.

COMPLAINTS

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your personal information, please contact me first so I can try to put things right. You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

I may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in my services or in the law. When I do, I will revise the date at the top of this page. Please check back occasionally so you are aware of any updates.
